John 5:20 – Be Amazed

“For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, and he will show him even greater works than these so that you will be amazed.” John – 5:20

The Father loves the Son infinitely and perfectly and He loves us in the same way. He has displayed His love for us by sending His Son to be born as a man and die an excruciating death on a Roman cross to redeem the sins of all mankind. We did not earn or deserve this redemption, which makes the Father’s perfect and complete love that much more evident. In Jesus, the Father declares His love and performs miraculous works, that His beloved mankind would return to Him, believing that He is God, Creator of all. That they are loved beyond measure, and fully redeemed by the once and for all work of Jesus.

The evidence of God is all around us. Whether we gaze at the vastness of the starry night sky, like Abraham, or we study the minute details of the microscopic, God’s creative hand is evident everywhere. But what the Father reveals through His Son, no sunset or starry night sky can fully declare. A sunset displays God’s immensity, glory, creativity, and power in a special way, but it falls short of displaying how infinitely personal our God is. Through Jesus, the Father has revealed His love for mankind, and each individual person in an undeniable way.

God sent His Son to die on a cross and rise from the dead because He loves us. When Jesus makes water into wine, casts out demons, heals the paralyzed, raises the dead, and feeds the multitudes, He declares the Father’s authority over all of creation, both physical and spiritual. When Jesus and the Holy Spirit change the heart of the sinner and redeem the seemingly unredeemable, God’s power and desire for relationship and unity with His children is made clear.

So don’t shy away, don’t overlook, don’t rationalize – but rather BE AMAZED! Marvel at the power of God on display. Marvel at His infinite vastness and attention to detail. Marvel that the Creator of the universe, knows you, loves you, and desire to be in relationship with you so much that He was willing to sacrifice His one and only, completely holy, and completely perfect Son to restore you and bring you back to Him. Be Amazed, and let your amazement draw you closer and closer to Him.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for making Your love for us so undeniable. Help us to marvel at who You are and how You love us, and let our amazement draw us closer and closer to You.
